My artist’s name is SORiaN, born in Romania, living in Laval, QC, Canada.
The art that I am creating is about freedom, love, courage and authenticity. I have named my painting method Philosophical Visionary Surrealism.
As a painter, my art is focused on the visionary, the surreal and on the conceptual blocks of consciousness. Archetypes and metaphors of this world and the vastness of the soul are the seeds and the pillars of the narrative streams unfolding in my paintings. They demand the participation of the observer, to dive within, to embrace them in order to eyewitness this emerging new world. They invite the beholder to decipher, comprehend and re-evaluate one`s own existential, cognitive and spiritual vantage point in order to give an authentic expression to the meaning of liberation, love, fear, angst, anger which are captured throughout my paintings but nevertheless present in each one of us.
My art concept involves the beholder’s immersion into archetypal ideas, using my paintings as a medium for this journey. They employ a subtle but explicit representational structure, backed-up by my own philosophical explicative stories of the respective compositions and sets of ideas. The underlying stories are linked at a deeper level and connected with my philosophical poetry and my philosophical views. My background in art and philosophy gives this attempt a distinctive perspective.
My goal is to attain through detailed surrealist representations the fundamental simplicity of the expression through art and of human existence and, at the same time, the complexity that inspires wonder but also surprizes the art observers, challenging them to discover the paintings, and find in their stories how they relate to their own models of the world and life experiences.
My art concept has been elaborated throughout three major art projects:

Details on these projects could be found on my website under “Art Projects and Collections” Section, at https://www.sorianart.com/surrealist-painting The art path started for me with the School of Arts, from my birth town (Piatra-Neamț, Romania) (1984 to 1992), where I learned the fundamentals of painting, drawing and art history. I returned to art many years later, starting to paint again, along with writing philosophical poetry in Canada, around 2007.
I am passionate about art both at the level of practice and at the level of research, attempting its convergence with the cognitive science and artificial intelligence perspectives, while maintaining its profound human authenticity and value. In October 2024, I finalized my PhD with the Doctoral School of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Bucharest, defending my Research Thesis called “Integrating Art, Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence”. My thesis stays under the motto “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free…” (Michelangelo). A quote from my Research Thesis Rationale: “My PhD Research Thesis is centered on studying the intersections between art, mind, body, and consciousness, emphasizing the profound interconnection between cognition, information, intelligence, and human physicality by correlating the ontology of art objects with cognitive frameworks, mental causation, heuristics and adaptative, dynamic models, thereby challenging traditional dichotomies, and advancing an embodied understanding of thought, intentionality, and artistic creation. I focus on the comprehension of human creativity, intelligence, and the possibilities of conceptualizing an AI that possesses both.”
