STATEMENT:
All great art is the inspiration of an artist’s knowledge and emotion. Without it, art ceases to be anything more than pure decoration. Aesthetic, emotional or spiritual value derived from art results from self-discovery. This is the true nature of my art. My chosen genre is Fantastic Realism, derived from the Surrealism Movement. Most works are more cerebral than strictly visual.
My work is primarily intuitive. I invent and portrays imaginary objects and characters not seen in reality. I draw from my subconscious to express myself in dreamlike images. The resulting works contrast images of fantasy and beauty, darkness and humor. The individual viewer’s vision, imagination, and experiences shape the final interpretation of each image. My works are more cerebral than strictly visual. My titles are often an afterthought; the image’s connection with the viewer shapes the viewer’s own title.
The goal of every artist is to become fluent enough with a medium to transcend it. I have done this after working in the digital medium for more than 30 years. I received his Master of Fine Arts in Fine Art Printmaking at the University of Oregon. My work is influenced by a 12-year residence in Germany and many later residences and journeys around Europe, The Middle East and Asia.
